Our Expedition and Objectives

Following on from the success of the REQUEST2021 Antarctica Global Project the aim is to continue in the footsteps of Scout Marr who went north in 1925/26 as part of Frank Worsley’s British Arctic Expedition.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

As part of our expedition, we will have 4 main objectives. Scouting expeditions are not about going on holiday, they are about Scouts contributing to society. Whether that is celebrating cultures and heritage, sharing ideas, promoting peace, or furthering our understanding of the world we live in through scientific research, Scouts are citizens of the world and they are part of a global movement which seeks to make a positive difference. We also hope that through this project we will support the development of our young people, inspiring them to become ambassadors of polar conservation as well as role models to other young people in Scouting to be brave in undertaking new challenges and intrepid expeditions around the world.

VOYAGE– We will undertake an adventurous expedition on a tall ship. We will be going “Under Sail in the Frozen North“. We hope to undertake the expedition with the support of Swan Expeditions on the tall ship, the Noorderlicht

PROJECTS– Whilst in the Arctic, we will undertake a group project and individual, personal projects. We will then presents the findings of our research on our return as part of our outreach objective. Our group project will be looking at microplastics in the water.

WORSLEY– In the run up to the expedition and whilst traveling to the Arctic Circle, we will celebrate the achievements of Frank Worsley.

OUTREACH– On our return we will share the experience with thousands of young people across the UK.
